Public Safety & Human Services
I support a strong public safety and human services system. We must serve and protect our most vulnerable residents and ensure a safe community. We must simultaneously provide the resources needed to provide safe neighborhoods while addressing the root causes of crime through mental health treatment and restorative justice strategies within our courts. Caring for our most vulnerable residents improves our entire community.
Strengthening Our Local Economy
I will work to strengthen our local economy by creating livable wage jobs. We must support the growth of local businesses and attraction of new companies and employers. We must also support, strengthen and partner with our labor unions to improving wages and working conditions for workers. As part of this strategy, we must invest in education and job training. Working together through cooperative partnerships between government, businesses, labor, and non-profits is key to ensuring the success of our region.
Quality of Life
I support investing in our infrastructure and neighborhoods. We must maintain our roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems, while protecting our parks, water and open spaces. Washtenaw County is enriched by the Huron River, a robust parks system, and beautiful natural spaces which provide for recreation and a healthier natural environment. We must maintain and invest in the health and sustainability of these resources.
Government That Works
I support a collaborative, inclusive and responsive government. Our leaders have a responsibility to listen to their constituents with an open heart and mind. At the county level, elected officials have a unique ability to not only listen, but seek input and sincerely connect with diverse constituencies. Candidly, people are busy -- they're taking care of families, working long hours, and navigating an increasingly complex and bureaucratic world. I recognize this and will help to reconnect citizens to the democratic process. I will gather input, understand the complex needs of all residents, and always prioritize the needs of the 8th district.
